Does it matter if a vehicle is Made in America? According to Cars.com, 40 percent of American consumers say it is – almost double the number from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. And we’re proud to say that Honda is one of the leaders.
Four Honda models are on the Cars.com 2022 American-Made Index®:
- #4 – The Honda Passport SUV
- #8 – The Honda Ridgeline pickup truck
- #9 – The Honda Odyssey minivan
- #10 – The Honda Pilot SUV
According to Honda, not only were all four of these models built in Honda’s Lincoln, Alabama factory, but their engines also were built in Alabama, and their transmissions in Tallapoosa, Georgia.
Honda has a long history of American production, beginning in 1979 in Marysville, Ohio. Over two-thirds of all Honda vehicles sold last year were built at Honda plants in Ohio, Indiana, and Alabama. And Honda’s five American automobile plants are the most of any international auto manufacturer.
Honda has a 40-year history of making its vehicles in America, beginning with its plant in Ohio. It has built more than 29 million vehicles in America and has supported American suppliers by purchasing $470 billion of parts and materials. The company has almost 30,000 team members in the U.S.
Cars.com 2022 American-Made Index® bases its ranking on five factors: where the final assembly takes place, the percentage of U.S. and Canadian parts, what countries manufactured the engines and transmissions, and the number of U.S. manufacturing employees. Cars.com says it doesn’t include vehicles weighing more than 8,500 pounds (full-size vans, heavy-duty trucks, etc.), fleet-only units, and vehicles slated to cease production the following year.
