The 2021 Honda Accord Still the “Best of” Winner 35 Times and Counting
Coloradans love SUVs. We at Schomp Honda love them, too, but there are many reasons why a sedan might be a better fit. Honda has the best of the best: the 2021 Honda Accord, once again included on Car and Driver’s “10 Best Cars and Trucks” list.
The Accord has been a fixture on this list for more years than any other vehicle: 35 times – more than any other vehicle. In fact, if you’re looking at the vehicles that have won multiple times, Honda has more cars on the list than any other manufacturer. They include the Accord (35 wins), the Prelude (10 wins before being discontinued in 2002), the Civic (8 wins), and the Fit (7 wins). In all, C&D says 100 different vehicles have won recognition at least one. But Honda wears the crown. And the Accord towers above them all.
For the 2021 “10 Best” list, Car and Driver had a market of more than 300 vehicles to choose from. The field has a price cap of $90,000 and includes any that are new are significantly changed since last year, including last year’s winners. As C&D puts it, “Any newcomer that wants to run with the best is going to have to be better than at least one vehicle that made the cut in 2020.” The final field of 57 contenders were tested with a focus on value, fun and “mission fulfillment.”
“The Best Car”
The Accord was hailed as “The best car that everyone used to buy is now the best car that everyone should be buying.”
There’s no real secret to the Accord. Honda just figured out how to deliver what drivers really need: good size, reasonable price, good handling, fuel efficiency, and lots of choices from the most reasonably priced LX to a hybrid that gets 48 mpg, to a surprisingly quick 252-hp 2.0T. And all of them come in well under $40k.
Car and Driver has just one complaint, and that is that Honda finally discontinued offering a manual transmission. Real driving aficionados love manual transmissions; the bulk of the driving public, not so much. Even without that option, the Honda Accord is Car and Driver’s top choice for 2021. Come visit us at Schomp Honda, and we’ll be happy to show you why.
