Schomp Honda Coach of the Year: William Baird, Grandview High School

Meet William Baird, the winner of this year’s Coach of the Year award! Mr. Baird is the Future Business Leaders of America Advisor at Grandview High School, who also coaches both Boys and Girls Junior Varsity Soccer, and Girls Varsity Basketball.

In October, Schomp’s Community Outreach arm of the organization, Schomp SPARK, launched the first-ever Coach of The Year Contest. This contest came into being with the launch of Schomp Spark – the identity behind our community giving, with a focus on education, wellness and stewardship. Local High School coaches were nominated via online submissions by peers, community members, and the students they impact. Our initial support from nominations was strong, with nearly 350 unique entries. In November, we narrowed the finalists down to a handful of recipients that were appointed by a board of appointed members. The finalists were chosen by a select committee in the sporting industry based on the feedback we heard from the nominators, and how those coaches best-exhibited the Core Values that Schomp embraces.

Then, in December, we opened up the voting to the public to determine who would win the Schomp Honda Coach of the Year Contest. We’re proud to report that the contest was a HUGE success. Mr. Baird’s supporters propelled him to victory with the highest number of votes.

As the winner of the contest, Coach Baird receives a 3-year lease of a brand new Honda Passport with complimentary maintenance, along with a $5,000 donation from Schomp Honda that he will donate to the athletics or educational program of his choice! The runner-ups will also get a prize for their schools as gratitude for their participation.

Runner-Up: Rod Sherman, Arapahoe High School

It was a nail-biting race, with runner up Rod Sherman from Arapahoe High School coming in a close second place. We’re proud of the participation and support from Arapahoe High School’s efforts. Due to the rallying from the school behind Coach Sherman, Schomp Honda has decided that Arapahoe High School’s efforts should be honored as well. Coach Sherman will also receive a $5,000 donation from Schomp Honda to use toward the athletic or educational program of his choice.

Congratulations to all of the finalists. We thank you for representing your schools and athletes, and for all that you do. And thank you, followers, for your help in promoting the Schomp Honda Coach of the Year program. We appreciate every effort from the community to make this program a success.

We’re extremely grateful for the public’s participation in this contest and we’re excited to do it again next year. We thank all of the finalists for their time, effort, and participation in the program. And above all, we want to thank YOU, the public, for taking the time to nominate and vote for the role models who have made a difference in your lives and had a positive impact on the community.

We look forward to more contests that recognize these individuals that go above and beyond down the road.
