Accord Sedan or CR-V SUV – Honda Shows Why Hybrids Are Gaining Followers
Car and Driver – the venerable, respected automotive publication – loves Honda vehicles. And
the 2023 Honda Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid are two of its favorites. No surprise, then, that
those two are on Car and Driver’s list of “Best Hybrid Vehicles of 2023 and 2024.” Those of us at
Schomp Honda certainly weren’t surprised.
To formulate its list of “Best Hybrid Vehicles of 2023 and 2024,” Car and Driver put all the
hybrids on the market through a comprehensive testing regimen. It included checking the
performance, fuel economy, visibility, safety and other metrics.
Car and Driver notes that the Honda Accord has made its 10Best list many times for “its
spacious interior, driver-friendly road manners, and impeccable build quality.” This year the
editors also raved about its “stunning overall competence.” But the 2023 Accord Hybrid comes
with a new 204-horsepower four-cylinder power plant has only enhanced its allure. It gets 51
mpg city/48 mpg highway. All four of the Accord’s higher trim levels are equipped with the
hybrid powertrain – Sport Hybrid, EX-L Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid and Touring Hybrid.
It also helps that it is a fine-looking sedan, inside and out.
The Honda CR-V has been very popular with Colorado drivers, and giving it hybrid capability
only enhances its appeal. Honda’s strategy is to get 50 percent of the CR-Vs it sells to be
hybrids. The CR-V Hybrid certainly is a savvy move toward persuading drivers to get on board
with hybridization. The 2023 CR-V Sport and Sport Touring models are available only as hybrids.
The 2023 Honda CR-V with front-wheel drive is rated by the EPA at 40 mpg combined
city/highway. The all-wheel drive version gets a combined rating of 37 mpg. Besides rating it
one of the best hybrids for 2023-24, the 2023 Honda CR-V also was named one of Car and
Driver’s 10Best Trucks and SUVs.
Colorado drivers are leaning into electric and hybrid vehicles in a big way. According to a
January report in The Colorado Sun, “Combined sales of fully electric vehicles (EVs) and plug-in
hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), both of which are considered ultra-low emission vehicles under
Colorado laws, reached 10.5% of all car sales for 2022, by far a new high mark.”
Whether you’re in the market for a great family car or excellent midsize SUV, one of Schomp
Honda’s client advisors will be happy to show you why they both belong on Car and Driver’s
“Best Hybrid Vehicles of 2023 and 2024” list.
