Honda Ridgeline Powers onto Consumer Reports’ 2021 “Best” List

March 1st, 2021 by

If a hulking profile and aggressive chrome grille aren’t quite your cup of tea, but you want a nimble, yet powerful pick ‘em-up-truck, then you probably will agree with Consumer Reports. It just named the 2021 Honda Ridgeline its 2021 top pick compact pickup truck. The Ridgeline is among only 10 vehicles that made the “10 Top Picks of 2021.”

The Genius of Trucks

To formulate its list, Consumer Reports tested more than 250 models, including cars, SUVs and compact pickups, choosing 10 for “outstanding performance in more than 50 tests at CR’s Auto Test Center, as well as having solid marks for reliability and owner satisfaction in our member surveys.”

As CR’s reviewers observe about pickups, “commercial-grade monsters are overkill for many suburbanites and weekend warriors. That’s where the genius of the Ridgeline comes in.”

Genius, as in:

  • The Ridgeline’s ability to “haul dirt bikes and tow a small trailer but was designed to excel in the daily commute with room for family.”
  • The 3.5-liter V6 engine that offers 20 mpg overall, making it CRs most fuel-efficient gasoline-powered engine. Oh…it also provides a “comfortable and composed” ride.
  • “…a clever lined bed that practically does magic tricks” with a tailgate that swings open or folds down to access the lockable underbed storage box/cooler and in some models has a built-in sound system.

The Ridgeline and other winners don’t reach the Top 10 list easily. In addition to having standard forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection features, the Ridgeline was driven thousands of miles and looked at through the lens of real-world consumer use. “That means we care more about … safety, comfort, and fuel economy than how quickly it can circle a race track.” Or, for that matter, whether it has intimidating size and chrome.
