Fuel Economy and Range
An engine control system that can shut down half of the engine's cylinders helps improve the Accord Sedan V6's fuel efficiency. The TSX doesn't offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.
To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the Honda Accord Sedan uses regular unleaded gasoline. The TSX requires premium, which can cost 20 to 55 cents more per gallon.
Environmental Friendliness
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certifies the Honda Accord Sedan as a 'Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle' (PZEV). The Acura TSX is only certified to 'Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle' (ULEV) standards.

Consumer Reports rated the Accord Sedan's headlight performance 'Good,' a higher rating than the TSX's headlights, which were rated 'Fair.'
To shield the driver and front passenger's vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Accord Sedan has standard extendable sun visors. The TSX doesn't offer extendable visors.
Both the Accord Sedan and the TSX offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the Accord Sedan EX has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The TSX doesn't offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.
Model Availability
The Honda Accord comes in coupe, sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the Acura TSX isn't available as a coupe.
Economic Advantages
Insurance will cost less for the Accord Sedan owner. The Complete Car Cost Guide estimates that insurance for the Accord Sedan will cost $116 to $236 less than the TSX over a five-year period.
The Accord Sedan will cost the buyer less in the long run because of its superior resale value. Kiplinger's estimates that the Accord Sedan will retain 55% to 58% of its original price after two years, while the TSX only retains 54%.
According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Accord Sedan is less expensive to operate than the TSX because it costs $18 less to do the manufacturer's suggested maintenance for 50,000 miles. Typical repairs cost much less on the Accord Sedan than the TSX, including $29 less for a water pump, $12 less for front brake pads, $325 less for a starter, $93 less for fuel injection, $43 less for front struts, $19 less for a timing belt/chain and $112 less for a power steering pump.
