Honda Pilot: "The Minivan Alternative"

On a trip through Aspen to Maroon Bells or up through Rocky Mountain National Park, the idea of cruising with the family in a minivan just makes the whole trip sound not as cool.  Enter the new 2011 Honda Pilot, the alternative to driving a minivan.

With a smooth ride and available four-wheel drive, you might forget the 2011 Honda Pilot is designed to haul the family.  It is great for deep snow, mud and other bad conditions Colorado can throw at you.  Plus, the four-wheel drive models can tow up to 4500 pounds.

But if you prefer city driving, on Denver's notoriously pothole filled city pavement, the 2011 Honda Pilot again offers a comfortable, smooth ride.  It's still got the interior space of a minivan, disguised as an SUV.  Similar to a minivan, the third row seats can actually fit adults.

For the directionally challenged, new in 2011, the Honda Pilot has an optional navigation system.  With a logical layout, these controls become even easier.

SAFETY IS STANDARD

For those drives home on I-70, the 2011 Honda Pilot comes with stability control and antilock brakes.  Each Pilot also has front seat side and full length side curtain airbags.  In 2011 the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety likewise gave the 2011 Honda Pilot its top "Good" rating for both frontal-offset and side-impact crashes.

EVEN MORE FEATURES

The 2011 Honda Pilot comes with a host of features to make the decision to buy much easier.  The Pilot comes standard with keyless entry, privacy glass, a trailer hitch and 17 inch wheels.

For those interested in the road trip experience, the 2011 Honda Pilot also packs in front and rear air conditioning, third row seats and seven speaker audio system with jacks that are CD and MP3 player ready.  Rounding out the experience is cruise control, automatic headlights and a tilt and telescoping steering wheel.

 LUXURY OPTIONS

For luxury options including an eight way power driver seat, steering wheel audio controls, in dash six disc CD player, heated exterior mirrors, and tri-zone climate control, consider stepping up to an EX model.  If that's not enough, consider the EX-L which also adds leather upholstery, heated front seats, an auto dimming review mirror with backup camera and a sunroof.

The 2011 Honda Pilot is Honda's definitive entry into the family carrying segment.

The Honda Pilot is Honda's entry into the hauling the family segment.  The 2011 Honda Pilot is only available with an automatic transmission.  All Pilots come standard with a 3.5 Liter V6, with 250 horsepower, more than enough to tackle the ride to the mountains.

Surprisingly the 2011 Honda Pilot handles much better than expected.  There will be an adjustment period if you aren't used to tall driving position, but once you are used to it, the 2011 Honda Pilot offers good maneuverability and clean handling.

Also of note, the 2011 Honda Pilot, though it is an SUV, has a car-like unibody design, which gives it the structural benefits of an SUV with the design of a car, allowing it to draw from both.

According to the critics, the Honda Pilot is one of the few that can accommodate adults in relative comfort.  With that in mind, when you are looking for a reasonable alternative to a minivan, consider the 2011 Honda Pilot.
